There was direct deposit of any amount up to the total, and cash. Of course it was not a lot of cash, even for the time. An E1 made $115 and as an E4 I made $350 per month. Oh the joy.Ruckushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18059765383428059804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4585442725225382080.post-69498131218440571432010-06-29T06:19:18.529-05:002010-06-29T06:19:18.529-05:00Marco,

After the disbursing officer, lay the various and sundry "sharks" who made the all important between payday loans to their shipmates.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4585442725225382080.post-412971650005832432010-06-25T01:25:53.616-05:002010-06-25T01:25:53.616-05:00I'm trying to think when exactly the pay line ...I'm trying to think when exactly the pay line was phased out. I remember having it on my first two ships in the early-mid '80s. When I went back to sea in 1990 after a shore duty tour I think everyone was paid in checks and the cash pay line was gone. Later in the '90s they forced everyone to go to direct deposit. By the time I retired in 2006 the ship was "cashless" and you used a smart card for the ship's store and even the vending machines.

I also remember the pay line being used for things like vaccinations-the corpsmen knew almost everyone would be there.
