Uniform Disasters; Followup

(Original post)

If this article is to be believed
, the new Battle Dress Oceanic Navy Work Uniforms are not very popular with the sailors.

I still think they look silly.

Also, I was near a navy base several weeks ago. I saw a couple of young squids wearing the new summer uniform of a black pisscutter, a khaki shirt and black trousers. They looked like knock-off jarheads.

The new uniforms are just dumb.

The color pattern of the NWU (navy blue, deck gray, haze gray and black) is designed to make it more difficult for some hostile local ashore to get a good shot at a sailor on the deck of a navy ship.

For realz?? Has any sailor on the deck of a ship ever been shot by anyone on shore?

As far as a sailor on the deck of a commissioned warship being shot at by someone with a rifle, I think you might have to go back to the navy gunboats on Chinese rivers before WW2. Or maybe the 19th Century.

That justification is akin to making uniforms that are resistant to the bites of zombies.

Even if you accept the shore fire argument (which I don't), the proper solution to that is make the NWU's gray, since the ships are gray. But I guess that BS sounds better than the truth, which is the Pentagon squadron (GONRON?) felt left out eating donuts in khakis.

As for the stupid khaki & black uniforms, I can only shake my head. During Rose Festival this year I was coming back from a trip on PT658 and saw someone wearing those on the barge it tied up to. I thought he was a Canadian at first. fortunately we had an IC from the Shoup on board and I didn't hafta ask the poor guy on the barge WTF he was wearing.

I say go with gunslingers. Everyone looks bad ass in a Johnny Cash suit.
