They looked stupid in that uniform. They looked like mall ninjas.
I know that I may sound like a broken record on this topic.[1] But I remain unshaken in my opinion that the aquaflage uniform is one of the dumbest looking uniforms around.[2] I predict that neither aquaflage or the new enlisted service uniform will be around by the end of this decade. And those clowns that recommended adopting them will luckily escape the flogging that they so richly deserve.
It could be worse, I suppose. At least the Navy didn't adopt the "Working Uniform;
It definitely could be worse.

2. The new enlisted service uniform with the black pisscutter cover is almost as bad.

Whoever thought up that aquaflage should be keelhauled as well.... dungarees served me well, and I could wash em off the fantail underway in a bag.

USS Reasoner Sailor....
PS, I enjoyed your engineering blog posts.... top notch.
Having hauled around on my body and other places this last week the stylish and coordinating armor complete with plates.
That color and pattern sucks. The only
place it would blend in is a dumpster as part of the contents because it sticks out like a wounded thumb on pavement, grass and especially the woods.
It should be aqaflush-ed. Gack!
Eck!
Steamer, thanks. You were a snipe?
Hi! Yep, a BT. Steamed the 1200psi plants in Reasoner, and the 600psi plants in Oriskany, and Coral Maru.....
I went in when we had that utility uniform. The only good thing about them were the trousers. Tough they were. Good for working the Flight Deck. Wish I could find some now. I can wear a pair of pants out fairly quickly on the flight line here at Edwards.
That being said, when we had to wear the Johnny Cash(winter blue) with a dixie cup.........yeah. I saw a first class at the NEX at Lemoore in Jan of '06 with the Johnny Cashes and the black piss cutter. Jury was still out when the idiots at the uniform board came up with that black and tan nightmare.
With the Aquaflage........
I had a phone con with Master Chief Rivers at the Bureau a few short years ago and he could not give me any really valid reasons. Not a single one.
I have a friend who worked for me on my last shore tour that is now a Mustang LCDR at FRC NW Whidbey. She says don't knock it, it is a really comfortable uniform. So were Sea Farer Dungarees.
Even the short lived new utility working uniform made sailors look like they worked as Sears Tire and Auto, Firestone, Les Schwab or some place like that.
Those new utility uniforms were what I was issued in boot camp in '72. As soon as I could, I got the issue dungarees.
Like I said, you could put those into a mesh bag, tie a line to the bag, and toss em over the fantail while underway. After about an hour, haul em in, rinse in fresh water and press em.... That lends a whole new definition to 'salty'. LOL
In those days, we did not have the coveralls, and if you were on the burner front, everything you had smelled like NSFO, (Navy Special Fuel Oil) right down to your skivvies.
Salt water wash, and fresh water rinse got rid of that fuel oil smell.

ORPO1, I bet I know the reason why the new uniforms were adopted: The makers get to sell a couple million of them. That undercut all of the cheap-ass chiefs and officers who bought their wash khakis from Dickies rather than the NEX Uniform $hop.
Steamer, I felt that BT's were the bedrock of the Navy.
Now it's what, those gas-turbine twidgets??
Aquaflage-every time I see that uniform I thank god I retired just before it became mandatory. Total insanity.
Thanks Comrade Misfit
Sorry I hijacked the comment thread....
I certainly hope your prediction comes to pass.... sailors look like sailors, and not knock off jarheads....
(No offense to Uncle Sam's Misguided Children...grin)
I guess I am just gettin old.....
For the love of fucken godde, those are really Air Force personnel in those fucken store clerk outfits?????
PP, they are indeed.
As a former Mall Ninja I can assure I would never be caught dead in that silly getup. It almost as bad as Canadian Forces Garrison dress in the early 90's.
